Why Black Female Art?

People often ask me why I focus so much on painting black women. “What about everyone else?” they’ll say. The answer is simple: I paint what I know—I paint myself.

For me, painting black women is more than just art. It’s about celebrating us—our beauty, our skin tones, our hair, and all the little details that make us who we are. It’s a way to highlight how amazing and diverse black beauty truly is.

When I put a black woman on canvas, I’m doing more than creating an image; I’m pushing back against beauty standards that have left us out for far too long. It’s a way to tell our stories, show our strength and resilience, and honor the richness of our experiences.

Representation matters, and through my art, I want to empower black women, create a sense of pride, and remind us all that we belong—everywhere.

Art is powerful, and painting black women is my way of using it to spark conversations about inclusivity, equality, and the incredible impact black women have had on the world.
